When your Medicare Safety Net family is close to reaching the relevant Safety Net threshold, we’ll ask you to confirm who’s in your family. Use this guide if you are asked to confirm your Safety Net family.
You’ll need to do this, so we can pay you higher Medicare benefits for certain services when your family reaches the threshold.
If you’re the family’s contact person or their partner, you can view and confirm your family online.
You’ll need to call the Medicare program line or complete the Medicare Safety Net couples registration and amendment form if you:
- haven’t been asked to confirm your safety net family
- need to change who’s in your safety net family.
Step 1: sign in
Sign in to myGov and select Medicare.
If you’re using a computer, sign in to myGov and select Medicare.
If you’re using the app, open it and enter your myGov PIN.
Select Safety Net from the Services menu.
Select the year you want to confirm from the Medicare Safety Net period for drop down menu.
Select Confirm your family.
Select Begin.
Step 2: check your family details
We’ll display who’s in your Medicare Safety Net family.
Review who’s in your family, then select either:
- Yes if you need to change your family details
- No if your family details are correct.
Then select Next.
If you need to change who’s in your Medicare Safety Net family, you’ll need to call the Medicare program line or complete the Medicare Safety Net couples registration and amendment form.
In this example, the family details are correct.
Step 3: review and submit
Review what you told us about your Medicare Safety Net family details.
To change what you told us, select Edit.
When your details are correct, read the declaration.
Then select either:
- Submit to accept the declaration and finish your confirmation
- Cancel to stop your confirmation.
If you cancel, you’ll still need to confirm who’s in your family. If you don’t, you might miss out on getting higher benefits when your family reaches the threshold.
When you’ve confirmed your Medicare Safety Net family, you can select either:
- View Safety Net balance to view your Safety Net details
- Home to return to your homepage.
Step 4: sign out
From your homepage, you can complete other transactions or select Return to myGov to go back to your myGov account.
For your privacy and security, sign out when you’ve finished using your myGov account.
We have other guides to help you. Read about help for myGov, online accounts and mobile apps.
