The screenshots in this guide are from a computer. The screen layout will look different if you’re using a mobile device.

You can get a new card online if you meet all of these requirements:

  • you’re living in Australia and you’re an Australian citizen, a New Zealand citizen or you have a permanent resident visa
  • you’re 15 or older
  • you’re only on one Medicare card
  • someone else doesn’t act on your behalf for Medicare purposes
  • you’re not in the care of a state or territory child protection authority
  • your current Medicare card has other people on it.

If you’re on more than one card and meet the other requirements, you can Leave a Medicare card and then complete this process online.

You can add your children to your new card if they meet all of these requirements:

  • they’re listed on your current Medicare card
  • they’re under 15
  • they’re only on one Medicare card.

You can add someone 15 or older to your new card online. You’ll need to ask for a new card first, then invite them to be added to the card.

If you can’t get a new card with others online, complete an application to copy or transfer from one Medicare card to another form.
