Patient eligibility
The Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) subsidises treatment under the National Health Act 1953, section 85 with:
- garadacimab for patients with hereditary angioedema Types 1 or 2
- lanadelumab for patients aged 12 years or older with hereditary angioedema Types 1 or 2.
Patients must be eligible for the PBS and meet the relevant restriction criteria.
The Schedule of Pharmaceutical Benefits on the PBS website outlines the restrictions for prescribing garadacimab and lanadelumab.
Treatment specifics
To be eligible for PBS-subsidised treatment with garadacimab or lanadelumab, patients must be treated by either a:
- clinical immunologist
- specialist allergist.
Authority applications

Applying for initial or change of treatment
Applications for initial authority approval or to change treatment to prescribe PBS-subsidised garadacimab or lanadelumab to treat hereditary angioedema Types 1 or 2 can be made in:
- real time using the Online PBS Authorities system
- writing and using HPOS Form upload
- writing and mailed to PBS Complex Drugs Programs.
All written applications must include:
- details of the proposed prescription or prescriptions
- the completed hereditary angioedema Types 1 or 2 - garadacimab or lanadelumab - initial or change authority application form
- relevant attachments.
Applying for initial grandfather treatment
Applications for initial grandfather authority approval to prescribe PBS-subsidised garadacimab to treat hereditary angioedema Types 1 or 2 can be made in:
- real time using the Online PBS Authorities system
- writing and using HPOS Form upload
- writing and mailed to PBS Complex Drugs Programs.
All written applications must include:
- details of the proposed prescription or prescriptions
- the completed hereditary angioedema Types 1 or 2 - garadacimab - initial grandfather authority application form
- relevant attachments.
Applying for continuing treatment
Applications for continuing authority approval to prescribe PBS-subsidised garadacimab or lanadelumab to treat hereditary angioedema Types 1 or 2 can be made either:
- in real time using the Online PBS Authorities system
- by calling the PBS Complex Drugs Programs enquiry line.
