TFES for King Island and the Furneaux Group goods shipped intrastate

Your business can get financial assistance with the cost of shipping goods between Bass Strait islands and mainland Tasmania through the intrastate part of the Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme.

Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme (TFES) assistance is available for goods shipped intrastate between either:

  • King Island and mainland Tasmania
  • the Furneaux Group and mainland Tasmania.

To be eligible your business must have also incurred and paid a freight cost to or from mainland Tasmania.

You’re not eligible if any of the following apply:

  • you’re a freight forwarder
  • you’re a shipping company
  • you arrange or advise on shipping
  • you advise on TFES
  • you set the price of shipping.

You’re also not eligible if you’re in a non-arm’s length relationship with a freight forwarder or shipping company. If you’re not sure if your business has a non-arm’s length relationship, you can call our Tasmanian Transport Schemes team for more information.

Register

You need to register for TFES and have your eligibility confirmed by us before you submit your first claim.

You can register at any time, including before you’re ready to ship goods.

To apply to claim shipments, download and complete the TFES - Registration and change of details form. In Question 13, select the Intrastate option.

When you’ve completed the form, send it to us using the instructions on the form.

Once you’ve sent us your registration form, we’ll determine if you’re eligible to claim shipments. If we have questions about your application, we’ll contact you.

You’ll get a letter telling you the outcome.

If you’re eligible to claim, we’ll send you an email with:

  • your logon ID
  • your temporary password
  • instructions about how to claim TFES.

Updating your details

We recommend you update your details as soon as they change. This includes:

You can update your details by downloading and filling in the TFES - Registration and change of details form.
