If your business incurs and pays the freight cost of shipping goods across the Bass Strait, the Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme (TFES) can assist.
Before claiming for financial assistance under TFES your business must:
- be registered with TFES
- have incurred and paid the freight costs to transport eligible goods
- meet eligibility rules under a TFES category.
We administer TFES on behalf of the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts.
You can find out more about TFES and check if you’re eligible to claim under the following categories:
- Northbound goods, for goods shipped across Bass Strait from Tasmania to the Australian mainland. This includes goods staying on the mainland and goods shipped to other markets
- Southbound goods, for goods shipped across Bass Strait from the Australian mainland to Tasmania. This includes Australian goods and goods imported from overseas
- King Island and the Furneaux Group, for goods shipped in either direction between King Island or the Furneaux Group and the main island of Tasmania
- Sportspersons and professional entertainers, for sporting and entertainment equipment
- Brood mares, for brood mares shipped on a round trip.
