To be eligible to claim under the Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme (TFES) you must have transported either:
- Tasmanian based brood mares to and from mainland Australia for servicing
- King Island or the Furneaux Group based brood mares to and from mainland Tasmania for servicing.
To be eligible you must have also incurred and paid the freight costs for both legs of the round trip.
You’re not eligible if any of the following apply:
- you’re a freight forwarder
- you’re a shipping company
- you arrange or advise on shipping
- you advise on TFES
- you set the price of shipping.
You’re also not eligible if you’re in a non-arm’s length relationship with the freight forwarder or shipping company. If you’re not sure if your business has a non-arm’s length relationship, you can call our Tasmanian Transport Schemes team for more information.
Register
You need to register for TFES and have your eligibility confirmed by us before you submit your first claim.
You can register at any time, including before you’re ready to ship brood mares.
To apply to claim shipments, download and fill in the TFES - Registration and change of details form. In Question 13, select the Other option and write Broodmares in the box.
When you’ve completed the form, send it to us using the instructions on the form.
Once you’ve sent us your registration form, we’ll determine if you’re eligible to claim shipments. If we have questions about your application, we’ll contact you.
You’ll get a letter telling you the outcome.
If you’re eligible to claim, we’ll send you an email with:
- your logon ID
- your temporary password
- instructions about how to claim TFES.
When you get this email, change your password before submitting a claim.
