Check your King Island and the Furneaux Group goods are eligible

Your King Island and the Furneaux group goods must meet some rules for you to get financial assistance with your intrastate freight costs through the Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme.

Your King Island and the Furneaux Group goods are eligible for the Tasmanian Equalisation Scheme (TFES) when they’re shipped intrastate and either:

  • produced or manufactured on mainland Tasmania for permanent use or sale in King Island or the Furneaux Group
  • produced or manufactured in King Island or the Furneaux Group for permanent use or sale in mainland Tasmania.

If your business is in the manufacturing or mining industry on King Island or in the Furneaux Group, your raw materials and equipment goods may also be eligible. This is if both of the following apply:

  • they’re produced or manufactured in mainland Tasmania
  • you’ll use them in your manufacturing or mining processes in King Island or the Furneaux Group.

If your business is in the agriculture, forestry or fishing industry on King Island or in the Furneaux Group your material inputs, machinery, implements and equipment goods may also be eligible. This is if both of the following apply:

  • they’re produced or manufactured in mainland Tasmania
  • you’ll use them in your agriculture, forestry or fishing activities in King Island or the Furneaux Group.

Goods that aren’t eligible

TFES only applies to eligible goods your business sends by sea.

Your goods won’t be eligible under TFES if they’re manufactured on mainland Australia or outside Australia. However, if they undergo a further manufacturing process on the Tasmanian mainland, they may be eligible.

If you’re not sure if your goods are eligible, call our Tasmanian Transport Schemes team for help.
