TFES for sportspersons and professional entertainers

Sportspersons and professional entertainers can get financial assistance with the cost of shipping goods across Bass Strait through the Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme.

You may be eligible for financial assistance through the Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme (TFES) if you’re a sportsperson or professional entertainer.

Check your eligibility

The requirements you need to meet to be eligible for TFES depends on whether you are claiming as a sportsperson or a professional entertainer. You must have also incurred and paid a freight cost.

You’re not eligible if any of the following apply:

  • you’re a freight forwarder
  • you’re a shipping company
  • you arrange or advise on shipping
  • you advise on TFES
  • you set the price of shipping

You’re also not eligible if you’re in a non-arm’s length relationship with the freight forwarder or shipping company. If you’re not sure if your business has a non-arm’s length relationship, you can call our Tasmanian Transport Schemes team for more information.

Sportspersons

To be eligible you must be competing in a sporting event where prize money or other financial reward is offered. The sporting event must be the primary purpose of your trip.

You, or your talent agent, must have incurred and paid the freight costs.

We decide eligibility on a case by case basis.

Professional entertainers

To be eligible you must get an income, fee or financial reward from performing in a show or event.

We decide eligibility on a case by case basis. We’ll also consider:

  • if entertainment is your occupation or main source of income
  • if entertainment is the primary purpose of your trip.
