Let us know about any changes to your circumstances and caring responsibilities. This includes:
- breaks from caring
- overseas travel
- changes to your adjusted taxable income
- changes to personal circumstances for you or the person you care for.
We need to know about changes that could increase, reduce or stop your Carer Allowance or Carer Allowance Health Care Card.
When a child in your care is turning 16, you can apply to transfer your Carer Payment or Carer Allowance from a child to an adult. Do this to keep getting paid.
We may review your income and the level of care you give to check if you can keep Carer Allowance.
There are rules about when you can get Carer Allowance when you or the person you are caring for travel outside Australia. You must meet the Carer Allowance rules at all times.
You can have an authorised representative to deal with us on your behalf. You can authorise them to enquire, update, act or get payments for you.
We use your adjusted taxable income to work out if you can get Carer Allowance.
