Safety
Job and employment scams are fake job offers designed to get your sensitive personal or identity information, steal your money or your labour.
You can keep yourself safe while you’re looking for work by:
- using trusted job search sites rather than jobs only posted on social media sites
- verifying email addresses and links by calling the employer advertising the job on their public access phone number
- making sure you don’t include sensitive private information such as your date of birth or address on your resume
- checking privacy policies before sharing your resume and only sharing on safe platforms.
If you’re doing an unpaid work experience placement you can protect yourself by working with responsible host employers who have insurance and can ensure a safe work site. You can check with them if they have insurance. Read more about staying safe while doing work experience on the Job Jumpstart website.
You can find out more about employment and job scams and report any suspected scams on the Scamwatch website.
