Job hunting

There are various tools and services to help you look for work. Here are some of the most helpful ones.


You can search for work in your area using jobactive’s Looking for a job? tool. They also have free online learning modules that can help you in your job search.

jobactive providers can help you access a range of programs, including Career Transition Assistance. You may also be eligible to access Transition to Work, or Youth Advisory Sessions.

Changes to jobactive

Workforce Australia replaces jobactive from 1 July 2022 and will feature:

  • Workforce Australia Online for job-ready job seekers to manage their own job search and reporting requirements as well as access to programs to increase their skills
  • Workforce Australia Employment Service Providers for job seekers needing tailored support to become job ready and look for work.

These changes apply to compulsory and voluntary participants in jobactive. This includes those in the current online employment service.

It doesn’t apply to job seekers engaged in any of the following:

  • Community Development Program
  • Disability Employment Services or
  • ParentsNext.

If you’re connected with jobactive, there will also be changes to how you’ll meet your mutual obligations requirements to keep your income support payment. You’ll need to meet a monthly points target to meet your requirements. The target will be set by your employment services provider and will be tailored to your individual circumstances.

If you’re connected with jobactive, the Department of Education, Skills and Employment will contact you soon. They’ll let you know about the changes and how it affects you.

Disability Employment Services

There are services that can help you find and keep a job if you have a disability, illness or injury.

Disability Employment Services is not included in the Workforce Australia changes.

Community Development Program (CDP)

If you live in a remote community, we’ll refer you to the CDP. CDP providers help job seekers in remote areas get skills while looking for work in their own community.

CDP is not included in the Workforce Australia changes.
