Parent Pathways

If you’re a parent or carer for a child under 6 years, you may be able to get help to identify and work towards your goals.

Parent Pathways is a voluntary support service that can help you identify and achieve future goals. The service is flexible, accessible and considerate of your individual circumstances.

The service offers:

  • support from qualified and experienced mentors
  • language or literacy programs
  • access to training and short courses, or support to get a qualification
  • financial support, for example to help with the cost of training courses or to purchase a computer
  • referral to supports such as financial information services and family and domestic violence support services.

Who’s eligible

To be eligible, there are some rules you’ll need to meet, this includes all the following:

  • you have a child aged under 6 years
  • you’re not getting income from paid work
  • you live in an area where there’s a Parent Pathways provider.

You’ll also need to be getting either Parenting Payment, Carer Payment or Special Benefit.

You may be eligible if you’re not getting a Centrelink payment, and are one of the following:

  • under 22 years
  • didn’t finish year 12 or get a year 12 qualification
  • are a First Nations parent or carer.

A Parent Pathways provider can tell you more about how the service can help you.

If you are eligible for Parent Pathways and get either Parenting Payment, Carer Payment or Special Benefit, you will be able to send your details to a Parent Pathways using your Centrelink Online account in myGov or the Express Plus mobile app.

To do this:

  1. Select Manage consent details.
  2. Select Parent Pathways.
