Help and support for Centrepay businesses

We want every Centrepay business to understand and uphold their obligations and deliver services to our customers.

We want these businesses to meet our rules and expectations. We also want them to help and support our customers.

To do this, we undertake activities to help Centrepay businesses comply, including:

  • education and support
  • assurance checks
  • compliance audits
  • referrals to regulators.

Education and support

We provide education and support to help Centrepay businesses identify issues and fix them before they become a more serious problem.

When dealing with our customers, Centrepay businesses must only provide the goods and services it’s approved for and not provide any excluded goods. The business must also keep accurate records of the goods and services provided to each customer in exchange for their Centrepay deductions.

Centrepay businesses are responsible for monitoring customer accounts, for any incorrect deductions and for quickly returning these to customers.

A business must get consent and a completed Centrepay deduction authority before starting or increasing any Centrepay deductions on behalf of a customer. Failing to do this means the business may need to repay these deductions to the customer.

Businesses must also comply with several administrative requirements for Centrepay deductions. They must lodge deduction authority details in our Centrepay systems for businesses within 3 business days. They must also make sure only authorised staff use our systems and they always follow the rules.

A Centrepay business must also tell us within 5 business days if any of the following apply:

  • changes in the staff we have authorised to use our systems
  • changes to its nominated Contact Officers or Authorised Officers for Centrepay
  • changes to business ownership, governance or structure
  • if it’s under investigation by any Commonwealth, State and Territory agency or regulator.
