- 18 years or older
- claiming as an independent
- a secondary non-school, tertiary, Masters or Doctorate student
- doing an Australian Apprenticeship.

If you’re 16-17 and a dependent secondary school student living at home. |
1 or more of the following:
- your parent or guardian
- you, if requested by your parent or guardian
- you, if your parent or guardian uses it for other purposes like gambling or alcohol.

If you’re under 16, a dependent secondary school student and living away from home. |
1 or more of the following:
- your parent or guardian
- your boarding school
- your private board provider, if requested by your parent or guardian
- your boarding hostel if it’s signatory to the Standard Hostels Agreement.
If you’re going to a boarding school or hostel, we check you’ve started study before we make a payment.
