How to manage your EBT card

How you manage your Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card depends on whether you have a physical or digital EBT card.

We only offer EBT cards in limited circumstances. You can’t apply for an EBT.

If you gave us an email address or mobile number when we issued your EBT card, you can view and manage your card on the EBT Cardholder site or EBT card app.

To use the EBT Cardholder site you will first need to sign up on the EBT Cardholder website.

Using the EBT Cardholder website

There are many things you can do on the EBT Cardholder website.

Turn Tap and Pay on and off

Your physical EBT card has contactless transactions called Tap and Pay, turned off until you arrange to change it. You can do this via the EBT Cardholder site, or by calling Services Australia on your regular payment line.

Check your balance and transactions

You can make a balance enquiry at an ATM. You can also check your balance and manage your card on the EBT Cardholder site.

Other things you can do

You can also do these things:

  • register for the cardholder site
  • report your lost or stolen card
  • change your PIN
  • find frequently asked questions.

Using the EBT card app

In the EBT card app, you can:

  • add your card to your digital wallet
  • turn Tap and Pay on and off
  • lock and report your card if you’ve lost it or it’s been stolen
  • change your PIN
  • check your balance and transactions
  • set up a daily transactions limit
  • set up alerts to help protect and manage your card.

Keep your physical card

If you have a physical EBT card, you don’t need to throw it away. These cards are reusable and can be topped up if you need to use them again in future.

If you’re eligible to have another payment made to your EBT card, we can reload it onto your card over the phone.

You don’t have to go to a service centre to have funds reloaded.

Card closure

If you don’t use your card for 90 days, it will automatically close. This means no funds have been added to your card and you’ve made no transactions on the card for 90 days.

If your card closes, we’ll transfer any unused funds back to your nominated bank account.

Fees

Services Australia and the card issuer Indue don’t charge any fees for using your EBT card for point of sale or ATM transactions, but some merchants and ATMs may charge a fee.

Terms and conditions

Terms and conditions apply to the use of your physical or digital EBT card. You should read the full terms and conditions before you use your EBT card. You can get a copy either:
