During your university student placement, you’ll get a chance to develop your skills while working on a variety of tasks. You’ll gain a greater understanding of our agency and the public service.
University student placements are unpaid and count towards academic credits.
Placements are primarily offered in metropolitan cities, with limited options in rural areas. All placements and locations are subject to availability.

Applying for placements
Applications for our semester 1 and trimester 1 2026 university student placements are open from 1 December 2025 to 2 January 2026.
Download and complete the form for the period you would like to undertake your placement.
To apply for a placement for semester 1 from February to June, use the semester 1 placement interest form.
For trimester 1 from March to June, use the trimester 1 placement interest form.
To apply, you can send an email with your completed application form and ‘USP intake X application - your name’ in the subject line to entrylevelprograms@servicesaustralia.gov.au.
Social work
If you want to complete a social work placement with us, please discuss this directly with your university placement coordinator.
Social work placements are only accepted for students currently studying a bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work.
