Our university paid internships are open to law university students based in Canberra in their final or second-last year of study. You’ll get hands-on experience in a government agency while working on real projects that support Australians. You’ll gain valuable experience while making a difference.
Applications for our 2026 university paid internships will open in August 2026.

- get paid at the APS2 level starting at $64,202 a year for a full-time role.
Who can apply
To be eligible for our internship, you must:
- be an Australian citizen
- be a Canberra student, bachelor or above, full-time or part-time
- be a university student in the final or second-last year of your law degree, with 6 to 24 months of study left from the intake date
- be achieving a minimum average mark of 60
- be able to get and keep an Australian Government security clearance
- complete any required police, health or other checks.
What you’ll work on
Interns work in roles matched to their field of study.
You might:
- research and analyse information
- prepare documents for review
- respond to questions and escalate complex issues
- apply procedures and protocols
- support stakeholder relationships.

- think critically to solve problems
- communicate clearly and simply
- listen actively and clarify meaning
- work transparently and respectfully.
