Preventing Financial Abuse through Child Support Strategy

This strategy and action plan outlines our commitment to reduce and prevent financial abuse through Child Support.

Our role

The Child Support Scheme exists to ensure that children receive the proper level of financial support from both of their parents. Services Australia helps separated parents by determining the amount of Child Support they pay or receive and by collecting and transferring payments. This ensures children get the financial support they need from both of their parents.

Financial and system abuse impacts our ability to deliver the scheme fairly, the safety of parents accessing the scheme and reduces the money available to meet children’s needs. Financial and system abuse through Child Support must be reduced and prevented so that children get the financial support they deserve.

Our commitment

Our agency is committed to addressing financial abuse through Child Support. The strategy outlines our role in identifying and responding to financial abuse. It demonstrates our goals to reduce risks, limit opportunities for abuse and safeguarding parents, so that children receive the financial support they are entitled to.

We are supporting the strategy with an action plan to clearly show the steps we are taking.

We’ve aligned the strategy to our Family and Domestic Violence Strategic Commitment.

Our strategy focuses on 5 key strategic objectives:

  • safety
  • certainty
  • equity
  • stewardship
  • partnership.

We’re committed to building our capability to effectively prevent and address financial abuse. We’ll do this by continuing to work with government, community and business partners and actively monitoring our actions.
