How to claim Special Benefit
Complete the following steps to claim Special Benefit. Before you start, check if you can get it.
Overdrawn bank account
You can get help to access your money if you have an overdrawn bank account.
Unreasonable to live at home statement by independent third party form (SY017)
Use this form if you have been nominated by a young person applying for Youth Allowance or ABSTUDY to comment on their family situation.
Centrepay goods and services
If you get an eligible Centrelink payment, you can use Centrepay to pay for goods and services from approved businesses.
Rural customers and primary producers
Some rural properties and farms have more than one title or larger blocks than residential properties. The asset test rules are different for these properties.

The Transition to Independent Living Allowance (TILA) helps if you’ve left or are leaving care. This may be formal care or out-of-home care (OOHC).
