Information employees need to give us

For your employee to get Parental Leave Pay, we need information from them.

We ask your employee:

  • if they’re permanent, casual or a contractor
  • if they’ll stay employed by you while they’re getting Parental Leave Pay
  • their employee identification number, if they have one
  • the date they started working for you
  • any other name they use, such as an alias.

To get Parental Leave Pay, your employee must meet the work test. There are some exceptions to the work test if they stopped work due to certain circumstances. Your employee may request evidence from you to confirm both of the following:

  • that they would have continued working had it not been for their circumstances
  • the period they were unable to work.

Your employee should keep their personal details updated with Services Australia and the Australian Taxation Office.

We also ask them some questions about your business, including:

  • your name or trading name
  • the ABN that is located on their payslip
  • the name and contact details of your Paid Parental Leave scheme contact.
