We use information from a range of sources to make sure child support assessments are based on accurate income details.
We match data from other sources and act on tip-offs to identify customers whose reported income may not match their circumstances.
If the information provided is incomplete or incorrect, we may review the assessment and make any necessary changes, including adjusting child support amounts or recovering unpaid amounts.
We may investigate:
- income from the cash economy, including cash-in-hand work
- income that isn’t salary or wages
- arrangements involving companies, trusts or partnerships that hide or reduce taxable income and child support
- legitimate reductions to taxable income and fringe benefits that may need to be included to calculate a more accurate child support assessment.
We encourage people to report suspected fraud or let us know if they have information about someone who’s earning income we don’t know about.
