How to understand your assessment

Information to help you understand your Child Care Subsidy (CCS) assessment notice.

Getting your assessment notice

When we’ve finalised your claim, we’ll send you a notice to let you know the outcome. If you get your letters online, we’ll send it to your myGov Inbox.

We’ll tell you the following:

  • if you’re eligible for CCS
  • your CCS percentage
  • your CCS hours
  • your withholding amount.

Understanding your assessment notice

Your assessment notice will include the information you need to know about your CCS.

This will list any children you’ve made a claim for.

This tells you what you’re eligible for.

If you’re eligible for CCS, you may also be eligible for Additional Child Care Subsidy.

This is your CCS percentage. We work it out based on your family income estimate.

Your CCS percentage will apply to the lowest of either the:

  • hourly fee you’re charged by your child care service
  • hourly rate cap.

If your family income estimate was $538,520 or more, your subsidy will be zero percent. It’s important you still submit a claim for CCS, just in case your income changes when we balance your payments after the end of the financial year. If your actual family income ends up being less than $538,520, we’ll pay you the subsidy you’re entitled to.

This is the number of hours of child care we’ll subsidise each fortnight. We work this out based on your recognised participation and circumstances. If you have a partner, we’ll use the lower of your or your partner’s recognised participation to work out your hours of subsidised child care.

Find out more about how your recognised participation affects CCS.

We withhold 5% of your CCS each fortnight to reduce your chances of an overpayment. If you’re overpaid, you may get a debt when we balance your payments.

You can change your withholdings amount to suit your circumstances. You can do this online up to 2 times each financial year. If you’d like to change it more often than this, you’ll need to call the Families line.
