How much you can get

There are different rates of Carer Payment for single and partnered people.

The Department of Social Services adjusts these rates every 20 March and 20 September.

Tax on your payment

If you or the person you care for are Age Pension age or above, your Carer Payment is a taxable Centrelink payment. We don’t automatically deduct tax from your payment, but you can ask us to do this for you. This can help you avoid a debt at tax time.

Carer Supplement

If you get Carer Payment for a period that includes 1 July, we’ll automatically pay you Carer Supplement each year. Find out more about Carer Supplement.
