How to register

Health Professionals can be linked to their general practice in the Organisation Register, accessed through Health Professional Online Services (HPOS).

Registering for general practices

General practices can register their practice for the MyMedicare program.

To register, you must:

  1. make sure you’re eligible
  2. link an organisation in PRODA to Health Professional Online Services (HPOS)
  3. access the Organisation Register in HPOS to register your practice and link your eligible providers.

If your practice is already registered and all participating providers are linked in the Organisation Register, you don’t need to complete a second registration process.

Once these steps are complete, you can add the MyMedicare program to your Organisation Site Record in the Program Registration tab from 1 October 2023 when the MyMedicare program starts.

If you’ve started your practice registration and linked your individual providers in PRODA and the Organisation Register, remember to go back into the system and add the MyMedicare program to complete your registration and enable patient registrations.

For patients to select a practice and a GP as their preferred GP in MyMedicare, the practice must:

  • have the MyMedicare program added on the Organisation Register
  • have GPs linked to the practice on the Organisation Register
  • make sure GPs have a valid provider number and are eligible to deliver Medicare Benefits Schedule or Department of Veterans’ Affairs equivalent services.

For more information on registering your practice, visit the Services Australia Health Professional Education website.

Registering for patients

Patient registration for MyMedicare opened on 1 October 2023.

Patients must have a Medicare or Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) Veteran card to register for MyMedicare. Patients can register online or in-person at their registered practice. All MyMedicare registration forms must be returned to the patient’s nominated practice.
