General Practice Training Payments

We pay General Practice Training Payments to registered Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) Program participants.

on this page

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) are the approved payment requestors.

You can receive payments as either a:

  • supervisor
  • practice
  • registrar.

A practice associate or an authorised contact needs to register their participating providers in the Organisation Register to get payments.

What we pay

There are 4 types of payments under the AGTP Program:

  1. Practice payment - we pay this to accredited training practices. The practice must register in the Organisation Register and add their bank account details to get these payments.
  2. Supervisor payment - we pay this to the practice, unless they advise we should pay the supervisor directly.
  3. Registrar payments - we pay this to the registrar, not the practice. These payments help with some of the costs of relocating to a new practice, education, training, and other registrar expenses.
  4. Salary support payments - we pay this to accredited training practices. These payments are for practices who can host a salary support person for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health training. The practice must register in the Organisation Register and add their bank account details before we can pay them. We’ll pay the practice, supervisor, or registrar.

How we pay

The Department of Health and Aged Care delivers the AGPT program. They decide who’s eligible and how much they’re paid.

The RACGP and ACRRM calculate payments for everyone registered in the AGPT Program and send payment requests to us.

We make the payments to AGPT Program participants in line with the payment requests we’ve received from the colleges.

A practice associate or an authorised contact needs to register their participating providers in the Organisation Register to get payments.

If you have any questions about the General Practice Training Payments you’re receiving call us.
