Each eligible good has a commodity code.
If you’re claiming online
If you’re claiming online there are 2 ways you can add commodity codes to your claim, these are:
- entering them into the claim lines in the Centrelink Business Online Services (CBOS) claim form
- adding them to a spreadsheet that lists your shipment details.
Adding commodity codes in CBOS online claim form
There are 3 ways you can find commodity codes to enter them into the claim lines in the Centrelink Business Online Services online claim form. You can find a commodity code by doing any of these:
- entering a description in the Commodity Code field of the online form and selecting ‘find’ when you enter your shipment details
- for northbound claims, you can look in Schedule 1 of the Ministerial Directions on the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts website
- looking in the CBOS user guide. You are sent a copy of this when you receive your online log on ID.

- Selecting help from the CBOS landing page.
- Selecting user guides and instructions.
- Selecting the TFES Claim Portal user guide.
Adding commodity codes in a spreadsheet
There are 2 ways you can find commodity codes to add to a spreadsheet that lists your shipment details. You can find a commodity code by either of the following ways:
- for northbound claims, you can look in Schedule 1 of the Ministerial Directions on the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts website
- looking in the CBOS user guide. You are sent a copy of this when you receive your online log on ID.
You can find commodity codes in the CBOS user guides by:
- Selecting help from the CBOS landing page.
- Selecting user guides and instructions.
- Selecting the TFES Bulk Upload Service user guide.
If you’re claiming with a form
You can enter a commodity code or a description in the Goods shipped or Commodity code column of the form.
If there are no commodity codes for your goods
