When you’re in financial hardship

There is help available if you’re in financial hardship during your preclusion period.

If there are exceptional changes to your circumstances and you’re in financial hardship, we may be able to reassess your Centrelink entitlement.

You’ll need to give us evidence that your circumstances both:

  • are unusual, uncommon or exceptional
  • make the application of the lump sum preclusion period unduly harsh or unfair.

Call us on the Centrelink compensation recovery line to discuss your situation.

We’ll assess whether you meet the special circumstances criteria based on your situation. If you do, we may be able to reduce your preclusion period.

You may be asked to complete and return the Compensation Recovery Statement of Financial Circumstances form.
