How a preclusion period may affect you
The preclusion period is the period of time that you’re unable to get income support payments because of your lump sum compensation payment.
You may get a lump sum payment that includes a component for loss of income. If you do, you need to use that payment for your living expenses until the preclusion period ends.
You won’t be able to get an income support payment from us during the preclusion period. The amount of compensation you get will affect the length of the preclusion period. This period may extend into the future.
You need to let us know when your compensation claim is settled. We need to know this information if you get a payment from us or have submitted a claim for one.
We’ll work out the length of your preclusion period. We’ll then let you know the period of time that you won't be able to get an income support payment from us.
You can use our compensation estimator to find out what your preclusion period might be.
The preclusion period only affects the person who gets the compensation payment. If you have a partner, it won’t affect their eligibility for an income support payment.
