If we already have some of the information you need to tell us, we’ll pre-fill it into your reports and claims.
We only get the information we need to administer the social security system. Read our STP protocols for more information about the data we get through STP.
Pre-filling your reports and claims
We may pre-fill some, all or none of your income information, depending on how your employer does their payroll reporting.
We’ll also pre-fill details like your employer’s trading name and Australian Business Number if we have them.
It’s your responsibility to make sure you provide us with complete and accurate information.
Check any pre-filled income figures and edit them if needed. You should also add any income details that haven’t been pre-filled.
If you have more than one employer, you may need to check several pre-filled income amounts.
You must also tell us about your partner’s income. Your payment is based on what you and your partner both get. That’s why we need to know about their income even if they’re not getting a payment from us.
Income isn’t just salary and wages. Check if any other payments or benefits you get should be reported as income.
Confirming or varying your data
You can change your pre-filled information if it isn’t right. Just edit it while you are filling out your report or claim.
The data we pre-fill comes from the payroll reports your employer sends to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) through Single Touch Payroll (STP). You should talk to your employer about any pre-filled figures you’re unsure of or if you think the figures aren’t right.
