Transition to Work subsidy amount

The number of hours we’ll subsidise each fortnight depends on your activity level.

We’ll pay the lower of either:

  • 95% of the fee charged where it’s equal to or below the hourly rate cap
  • up to 95% of the hourly rate cap, where the fee charged is above the hourly rate cap.

The length of time you can get this depends on whether you are studying, looking for a job, working or training.

Studying

The length of time you can get this subsidy while studying depends on:

  • your level of study
  • whether you are full time or part time.

You need to be studying either at least:

  • 25% of a full time study load to be part time
  • 75% of a full time study load to be full time.

Secondary course 104 weeks for full time study or
208 weeks for part time study
Preparatory course 104 weeks for full time study or
208 weeks for part time study
Certificate II to an Advanced Diploma 104 weeks for full time study or
208 weeks for part time study
for each level of the Australian Qualifications Framework
Bachelor Degree 156 weeks for full time study or
312 weeks for part time study
Bachelor Honours Degree, Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma 104 weeks for full time study or
208 weeks for part time study

We also count any time you got Jobs, Education and Training Child Care Fee Assistance for the same study level.

You’ll get this subsidy during study breaks throughout your course but not after the end of the course.

Looking for a job

You can get a maximum of 26 weeks of this additional subsidy for a job search activity. You don’t have to use this all at once. You can use a number of shorter time periods until you’ve used the full 26 weeks.

After this, you can’t use job search as an activity to apply for this subsidy again.

Working

You can get a maximum of 26 weeks of this additional subsidy for a work related activity. You don’t have to use this all at once. You can use a number of shorter time periods until you’ve used the full 26 weeks.

After this, you can’t use work as an activity to apply for this subsidy again.

Training

If you’re training, the length of time you can get this subsidy depends on the type of training.

Multiple activities

You can do 2 or more activities that meet the activity requirements. If you do, you can choose which activity you want to get it for.

If you give us details of more than 1, we’ll use the activity that gives you the longest time.
