Tell your community about payments for carers

If a member of your community is caring for someone daily, they could be eligible for Carer Payment and Carer Allowance.

A carer can get Carer Payment and Carer Allowance at the same time. This depends on their circumstances, income and assets and the person they care for.

Carer Payment is available for someone providing constant care to someone who has either:

  • a disability or medical condition likely to last at least 6 months
  • a terminal illness.

Carer Allowance is a supplementary payment available if someone is providing daily care and attention to someone who either:

  • has a disability or medical condition likely to last at least 12 months
  • is an adult who is frail aged.
