You must review your patient’s EDTMP within the 12 month plan period. Review the plan after each course of 10 eating disorder psychological treatment (EDPT) services before your patient starts another course.
At each review, you need to:
- assess your patient’s progress
- update the plan if needed
- confirm they’re receiving the right level of care.

After completing an EDTMP review, find the relevant item numbers and billing rules for eating disorder treatment and management plans.
Specialist review after 20 EDPT services
Before your patient can access more than 20 EDPT services, you and a consultant psychiatrist or consultant paediatrician must review their EDTMP.
You can complete the specialist review at any stage of treatment. However, you must complete the review and claim the relevant MBS item, before your patient accesses additional services.

Manage EDTMP expiry
An EDTMP expires 12 months after the date it was prepared. To access Medicare benefits for more EDPT or dietetic services, your patient needs a new EDTMP.
A review doesn’t extend the expiry date of an EDTMP.
Provide ongoing care
You may see your patient for other consultations as part of their ongoing care and medical management. You can claim these consultations under the relevant MBS item.
These consultations are separate from formal EDTMP reviews.
