Farm Household Allowance (FHA) provides a range of support for farmers and their partners who are doing it tough. It includes:
- a fortnightly income support payment
- an activity supplement worth up to $10,000
- allowances such as Pharmaceutical Allowance, Telephone Allowance, Rent Assistance and Remote Area Allowance
- a Health Care Card
- ongoing advice and guidance from a Farm Household Case Officer.
To get this you must:
- be an Australian resident and living in Australia
- be a farmer or partner of a farmer
- meet the income and asset test limits
- meet activity test requirements.
A farmer must:
- contribute significant labour and capital to a farm enterprise
- have rights over or interest in land in Australia that they use for the purpose of a farm enterprise
- have a farm enterprise that has significant commercial purpose or character.
Your financial hardship can be for any reason.
There’s no cap on the number of farmers who can get FHA.
