If you own your own home
If you own the home you lived in before going into care, we may count it as an asset. It depends on who’s living there.
We won’t count it as an asset if either:
- your partner or dependent child is living there
- your carer who can get an income support payment, has been living there for at least 2 years
- a close relative who can get an income support payment, has been living there for at least 5 years.
If this person moves out, your home may start to count as an asset.
Find out how we value your former home on the My Aged Care website.
