If you moved away for study, the Tertiary Access Payment may help with costs

Published: 16 June 2025

If this is your first year of tertiary study with no gap year, you may be eligible to get the one-off payment of up to $5,000 to help with the costs of moving.

The Tertiary Access Payment (TAP) is a one-off payment available for students moving from a regional or remote area for study.

You could get either:

  • $5,000 in 2 instalments if you’re from an outer regional or remote area
  • $3,000 as one lump sum if you’re from an inner regional area.

Claiming the TAP payment won’t stop you from getting other payments from us.
