Face verification scams

Scammers are asking you to verify your identity with a facial check to help prevent unauthorised activity and secure your account.

The message says you need to click a link to complete a review. The link takes you to a fake Services Australia or myGov website that collects personal information, including your myGov username and password.

These fake websites may also ask you to:

  • upload a photo of yourself
  • upload a photo of yourself holding your identity documents
  • allow access to the camera on your device
  • take a live video that records you making different facial expressions.

This is a scam. Scammers want you to feel worried so you act quickly and click a dodgy link.

Never click on a link to sign in to myGov or your Centrelink online account.

If you’re not sure if a message is from us, call us on your usual business line.

If you clicked on a link or gave personal information to a scammer, call our Scams and Identity Theft Helpdesk.

To report a scam email related to myGov or Services Australia, including Centrelink, Medicare or Child Support, send it to reportascam@servicesaustralia.gov.au.
