If you have other types of income

If you have other types of income you need to tell us. This is so we can pay you the right amount. You also need to tell us if this changes.

If you get other types of income not advised in your employment income reporting, it may affect your payment from us. If your income changes, even by a small amount, you need to tell us.

You don’t need to report your or your partner’s income if both of the following apply:

  • you get either Age Pension or Disability Support Payment because you’re permanently blind
  • you don’t get Rent Assistance.

If your partner is getting a payment from us, they’ll still need to report your income. They won’t need to report if they’re also blind, getting Age Pension or DSP and not getting Rent Assistance.

What to report

Other types of income can be money you get from any of the following:

You need to tell us about any money you get no matter how small.

Superannuation

You need to tell us if you make voluntary superannuation contributions before tax, this counts as income. We include this in your assessable income when we work out how much to pay you.

Reportable fringe benefits

Reportable fringe benefits (RFB) are salary sacrifice amounts or non-monetary items you get on top of your income. RFB can impact your income reporting.

If you accessed RFB, you need to tell us the dates. Find out more about Reportable fringe benefits for employees on the Australian Taxation Office website.

Other things we need to know

You need to tell us if you’re self-employed.

When you report your income, you must also tell us about any changes in your circumstances.

If you don’t, we may not pay you the right amount. This means you may not get the full payment amount, or you may have to pay us back.
