Claiming before your child’s birth or adoption
You can claim up to 3 months before the expected date of birth or date of adoption. We can’t pay you before the birth or adoption of your child.
Once your child comes into your care, you or your partner will need to give us both of the following:
- your child’s details
- proof of the birth or adoption.
Claiming after your child’s birth or adoption
If you claim after your child’s birth or adoption, you can give us proof of birth or adoption as part of your claim. If your partner has claimed a payment and provided proof to us already, we’ll use it for your claim. You won’t need to provide it again.
Before your payments can start, you need to do both of the following:
- submit your claim
- provide all supporting documents including proof of birth or adoption.
