Chronic Wound Consumables Scheme

You can provide eligible participants with free wound consumables for chronic wounds under the Chronic Wound Consumables Scheme (CWCS).

CWCS health professional eligibility and training

To be eligible to register for the CWCS, you are required to complete Best practice wound care training.

You must be registered with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) as one of the following specialities:

  • an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practitioner
  • a medical practitioner in a primary care setting, including general practitioner
  • a nurse (registered and nurse practitioner)
  • a podiatrist.

Once you’ve completed the required wound care training, register for the CWCS through PRODA.

CWCS participant eligibility and enrolment

To be eligible to participate in the CWCS, participants must have a chronic wound and diabetes, and be either:

  • 65 years or older
  • 50 years of age or older for First Nations people.

An eligible participant can only be enrolled to participate in the CWCS by an approved health professional.

CWCS product ordering

Only an approved health professional can make an order on behalf of an eligible participant through the CWCS.

Orders for wound consumables are made through the CWCS portal in PRODA.

If you’re unable to access PRODA, you can call the eBusiness Service Centre (Medicare) phone line and select Option 3, Monday to Friday 8 am-5 pm local time.

Information about products available through the CWCS can be found in the CWCS Product Schedule on the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing website.

CWCS approved distributors

All CWCS distributors are approved and managed by Department of Health, Disability and Ageing. CWCS distributors arrange the delivery of wound care products to the participant’s home or nominated address, at no cost to the participant.

If you wish to follow up on a CWCS order, please contact the eBusiness Service Centre (Medicare) phone line and select Option 3.
