To become a Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme (TFES) claims agent you must apply and be approved.
If approved businesses or people can authorise you to act on their behalf.
Once authorised you can:
- make enquiries on behalf of the business or a person
- submit claims for eligible businesses or people.
You can apply to be a claims agent if you don’t have either of the following:
- a direct or indirect involvement in setting the price of shipping goods
- an affiliation or interest in setting the price of shipping goods.
Before you apply, you should read and understand the obligations in the Ministerial Directions on the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts website.
How to apply
To apply to become a TFES claims agent, download and fill in the TFES - Claims agent application form.
You’ll need to provide supporting documents with your application. These are outlined in the application form.
If we have any questions about your application or require further details, we will contact you.
We’ll let you know the outcome of your application.
If you are approved, you will be notified by email of the next steps in the process.
What a variation or a cancellation of approval means
Your approval as a claims agent may be varied or cancelled if you stop meeting your requirements. This may happen if you:
- submit inaccurate claims
- give false or misleading information in relation to a claim
- don’t answer requests to give us documents within a reasonable timeframe.
- enter into a non-arms-length arrangement with a person who sets the price of shipping.
If you’re not sure if you’re in a non-arms-length arrangement, call our Tasmanian Transport Schemes team.
If your approval is varied or revoked, you must tell your claimants straight away.
