For services provided before 5 September 2025, the claim must be submitted within 2 years of the date of service.
For services provided on or after 5 September 2025, the claim must be submitted within one year of the date of service.
You’ll need to provide evidence of:
- why the claim couldn’t be submitted within the applicable claim limit period
- how it’ll affect the ongoing viability of your practice.
We won’t accept late claims due to an administrative issue, including:
- poor bookkeeping
- inadequate staffing, resources and training
- an issue with software.
To apply for late lodgement of a bulk bill claim:
- Contact our Medicare provider enquiries line to ask for an Application for late lodgement of a claim for assigned Medicare benefits form.
- Complete the form.
- Complete the original assignment of benefit form and get this signed by your patient.
- Send your application and assignment of benefit form for the late lodgement to Bulk Bill late lodgement applications.
