Recognising carers for National Carers Week 2025

Published: 12 October 2025

This month we celebrate National Carers Week from 12 to 18 October.

This National Carers Week, we recognise and celebrate the 3 million Australians who provide care and support to a family member or friend.

When you’re a carer, it’s important to take a break to help relieve stress, restore energy and promote balance.

The person you care for can be in formal respite care or looked after by family members or friends during your break. This is called respite or respite care. Respite care can be for a day or an extended period. You can take a break and still get Carer Payment or Carer Allowance.

Find out more about respite on the Carer Gateway website.
