PBS for pharmacists
Information for pharmacists about the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).
From 1 July 2020, you need to provide the Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF) ID in all PBS Online claims for residents within a Residential Aged Care Facility. This is to improve visibility of the supply of PBS medicines within this sector. Read about changes to PBS Online Claiming for Residential Aged Care on the Department of Health website.
From 1 January 2019, the Department of Health is responsible for approving pharmacists to supply PBS subsidised items. Read about approved suppliers on the Health website.
The PBS and RPBS make many prescription medicines more affordable for Australians and eligible overseas visitors.
We process claims from pharmacists and reimburse them for the medicines they supply. We also protect the PBS by preventing and detecting incorrect and inappropriate use of the program.
