New myGov notification for parents and caregivers of children turning 14

Published: 14 July 2025

From 14 July, some customers will receive a myGov notification about registering bank account details with Medicare.

To get Medicare benefits after visiting the doctor, people aged 14 and over need to register bank details with Medicare.

If you’re a parent or caregiver of a child about to turn 14, you’ll get a myGov notification when your child turns 13 years and 9 months.

It will take you to your Medicare online account where you can register a bank account before they turn 14. You can only have one bank account registered with us at a time.

Once the child turns 14 they can use their own Medicare online account to manage their Medicare details.
