Qualifying pensions

You must be eligible for a qualifying pension to access the Pension Loans Scheme (PLS).

This doesn’t mean you need be getting one of these pensions, but you need to meet the rules. The qualifying pensions are:

If you’re under Age Pension age and you don’t already get one of these pensions, you’ll need to apply for one. This is so we can work out if you qualify for the Pension Loans Scheme. You can use the Payment and Service Finder to see which payment is best for you.

If you qualify for a pension and get a loan, you’ll get a Pensioner Concession Card. But you must be getting a qualifying pension payment that includes the card.

If you get a loan, but don’t get a qualifying pension payment, you may not get a Pensioner Concession Card. You can apply for a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card instead.

If you’re registered in the Pension Bonus Scheme

If you’re in the Pension Bonus Scheme, it may affect your eligibility if you also apply for the PLS or a qualifying pension.

One of our Financial Information Service officers can help you work out what’s best for you.
