On the day you claim a Low Income Health Care Card you must meet residence rules.
You must be living in Australia and have 1 of the following:
- Australian citizenship
- a permanent visa
- a Special Category visa
- a certain temporary visa type, for example a Partner Provisional or Temporary Protection visa.
You must continue to meet the residence rules for the whole time you’re using the card. For example, if you no longer hold a valid visa you can’t keep using the card.
If you've recently arrived as a resident in Australia, you may have to wait to get payments or concession cards.
