Penalties for missed travel
There are penalties for students and non-student travellers who miss travel we’ve booked using ABSTUDY Fares Allowance.
If you miss travel, you need a good reason.
Secondary school students
If you miss travel without a valid reason we can still rebook your travel. However, you may get a debt of up to $100 for each trip you miss.
Secondary students not at a secondary school and tertiary students
If you miss travel without a valid reason, we won’t rebook or pay for the same trip in advance. You’ll need to book and pay for your own travel.
You can then apply for us to reimburse you. We’ll check if you’re still eligible for ABSTUDY Fares Allowance. If you are, we’ll pay you back. Keep in mind, you may need to pay us back for the trip you missed.
If you miss travel without a valid reason, we won’t rebook or pay for the same trip in advance. You’ll need to book and pay for your own travel. This applies to you if you’re supervising or travelling with a tertiary or secondary student not at a secondary school.
You can then apply for us to reimburse you, and we’ll work out if you’re eligible to get money back. You may need to pay us back for the trip you missed.
If you’re travelling with a secondary school student and miss travel, we can rebook your travel.
