Help with aged care costs if you’re in financial hardship

Published: 14 August 2026

If you’re experiencing financial hardship, you may be able to get assistance to help pay some or all of your aged care costs.

To be eligible for aged care financial hardship assistance, you must have:

  • completed a calculation of your cost of care form
  • assets below the current threshold of $46,835.10
  • not gifted more than the allowable amount.

If you use Support at Home, tell your provider if you apply for hardship assistance. They should pause contributions while your application is being assessed. If unsuccessful, you’ll need to pay the contributions.
