Help for care recipients in financial hardship

Published: 14 August 2026

Aged care financial hardship assistance may help some care recipients needing help to pay for their aged care costs.

Before applying for financial assistance, your care recipient must:

  • complete a calculation of your cost of care
  • check their assets are below $46,835.10
  • have not gifted more than the allowable amount.

If we grant their claim for assistance, we’ll pay some or all of their costs. How much we’ll pay depends on their situation. We’ll pay this to you directly. The care recipient is responsible for paying any remaining costs.
