If you’re a consultant psychiatrist, you need to submit item numbers for telehealth claims in a specific order. This applies for services provided to patients in:
- rural and remote areas
- residential aged care facilities
- Aboriginal Medical Services
- Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services.
Under the Health Insurance Regulations 2018, when you make a telehealth claim you must include item numbers in the following order:
- Base consultation.
- Fee loading service item 294.
This makes sure you allocate the fee loading item number to the correct base consultation item.
You need to bulk bill patients for the base item and item 294. You must also include the assigned benefit amount for each item.
You can’t bulk bill claims with fee loading items using Medicare Easyclaim.
